Inventory → Stock & valuation
In plain English
This page answers “how much do we have, and what is it worth on the books?”
What this does
Shows each item’s quantity on hand, quantity committed to open sales orders where used, available quantity, unit cost, and total value as of a date.
Inventory value on this report should equal the Inventory Asset balance on the balance sheet for the same date. Financial Truth flags a difference as an integrity issue.
How to
Review valuation
- 1Open Inventory → Stock & valuation.
- 2Choose the as-of date (and warehouse on Advanced).
- 3Filter low-stock items below their reorder point.
- 4Open an item to see every movement that built its quantity and cost.
Reconcile to the ledger
- 1Run the report as of month end.
- 2Compare total value to Inventory Asset on the balance sheet.
- 3Investigate any journal entries posted directly to Inventory Asset — these bypass item quantities.
Corrections, voids, and reversals
- Fix wrong quantities with an inventory adjustment; fix wrong purchase costs by correcting or reversing the source bill.
- Back-dated transactions can change historical cost; closed periods prevent this unless reopened by an authorized user.
Provider and availability notes
- Inventory work happens in the browser workspace. Dedicated mobile warehouse apps and handheld barcode-scanner integrations are not offered.
Permissions
- Anyone with report or inventory access can view. No posting rights are needed.
What happens in your books
This page is read-only and posts nothing. Value changes come from purchases, sales, adjustments, transfers, and builds.
Common mistakes
- Posting manual journal entries to Inventory Asset.
- Selling into negative quantity, which produces an unreliable cost until stock is received.
Troubleshooting
Valuation doesn’t match the balance sheet
Look for manual journals to Inventory Asset, or items linked to a different asset account.
Average cost jumped
A bill with an unusual unit price was received; open the item history to find it.
