What this does

An assembly is an inventory item made from other inventory items. Its bill of materials lists components and quantities per unit.

A build consumes components and adds finished units at the components’ combined cost. This is light assembly, not full manufacturing planning — there is no capacity scheduling or shop-floor routing.

Before you start

  • Set up every component as an inventory item with stock.
  • Create the finished item as an assembly.

How to

Define the bill of materials

  1. 1Inventory → Assemblies → open or create the assembly.
  2. 2Add components and quantity per finished unit.
  3. 3Save.

Build

  1. 1Choose Build, enter quantity, date, and warehouse.
  2. 2Confirm component availability (and lots/serials if tracked).
  3. 3Post the build.

Statuses and lifecycle

StatusMeaning
Draft buildNo stock moved.
Posted buildComponents consumed, finished units added.
ReversedComponents returned, finished units removed.

Corrections, voids, and reversals

  • Reverse a posted build to undo it; editing the BOM affects future builds only.
  • Posted records are never edited in place. Void or reverse them; KontoCore records a linked reversing entry with the user, time, and reason.

Provider and availability notes

  • Inventory work happens in the browser workspace. Dedicated mobile warehouse apps and handheld barcode-scanner integrations are not offered.
  • Labor and overhead are not automatically absorbed into build cost; record them separately if your accountant requires it.

Permissions

  • Owners, administrators, and users with bookkeeping or inventory permission can create and post. View-only users can read but not change records.

What happens in your books

Building 10 units from components costing $12.00 each in total:

Common mistakes

  • Selling assemblies before building them, driving finished quantity negative.

Troubleshooting

Build blocked

A component lacks quantity at that warehouse on the build date.
