Live bank feeds: Provider connection required. File import works without a provider.

In plain English

Every real-world bank or card account gets a matching account in KontoCore so its activity can be reviewed and reconciled.

What this does

Each bank, card, or cash account is a balance-sheet account in your chart of accounts. Activity arrives by live feed (when a banking provider is connected) or by importing statement files (CSV, OFX/QFX where supported).

The Accounts page shows each account’s book balance, the last reconciled date, and how many transactions await review.

Before you start

  • Have the account’s name, type, last four digits, and the statement ending balance on your start date.

How to

Add an account

  1. 1Open Banking → Accounts → Add account.
  2. 2Choose the type (checking, savings, credit card, cash, loan).
  3. 3Name it and choose or create its ledger account.
  4. 4Enter the opening balance and its date, or leave it for Opening balances.
  5. 5Save.

Bring in activity

  1. 1Choose Connect (requires a banking provider) or Import file.
  2. 2For imports, map columns and confirm the date range.
  3. 3Imported lines land in Bank transactions for review — nothing posts automatically.

Statuses and lifecycle

StatusMeaning
ActiveAccepting activity and reconciliation.
DisconnectedLive feed stopped; history is kept. Reconnect or import files.
InactiveHidden from daily lists; history and reports retained.

Corrections, voids, and reversals

  • Change an account’s name or type at any time; history follows the account.
  • An account with posted activity can be made inactive but not deleted.

Provider and availability notes

  • Live bank feeds require a connected banking provider. Without one, import statement files.

Permissions

  • Owners and administrators add or connect accounts.
  • Owners, administrators, and users with bookkeeping permission can create and post. View-only users can read but not change records.

What happens in your books

Adding an account creates no transactions. An opening balance posts a balanced entry against Opening balance equity (see Opening balances).

Common mistakes

  • Creating a second account for the same bank account, which duplicates imported activity.
  • Entering today’s balance as the opening balance instead of the balance on your start date.

Troubleshooting

Balance differs from the bank

Check unreviewed transactions and the opening balance date, then reconcile.

Feed stopped updating

Reconnect from the account menu; if the provider is unavailable, import a file for the gap.
