Accounting → General ledger
In plain English
The complete, permanent list of every amount that moved in your books, organized by account.
What this does
The general ledger is read-only. Every line comes from a posted source — invoice, bill, payment, journal entry, payroll, depreciation — and links back to it.
Filter by account, date, source type, job, or dimension. Balances are always derived from lines; there are no hand-typed totals.
How to
Investigate a balance
- 1Open Accounting → General ledger.
- 2Choose the account and date range.
- 3Select a line to open its source document and see who posted it and when.
Corrections, voids, and reversals
- Posted records are never edited in place. Void or reverse them; KontoCore records a linked reversing entry with the user, time, and reason.
- Fix the source document (void/credit/reverse) rather than posting a journal entry over it, so the trail stays intact.
Permissions
- Anyone with report access can view; nobody can edit ledger lines directly.
What happens in your books
Viewing changes nothing. Every posted entry balances (debits = credits); KontoCore rejects unbalanced postings.
Common mistakes
- Posting manual journal entries to correct invoices or bills — the source and the ledger then disagree.
Troubleshooting
Balance differs from a report
Check the report basis (cash vs accrual) and date range.
